The Bank of Japan Archives, Institute for Monetary and Economic Studies
The Archive Group, Historical Studies Division, Institute for Monetary and Economic Studies (IMES), Bank of Japan operates the Bank of Japan Archives (hereinafter referred to as “the Archives”) as part of IMES's role to “collect, preserve, and provide public access to historical records related to finance and the economy.”

Our History
| October 1982 | The Bank of Japan began making archival records with historical value related to financial history available to the public as part of its Centennial Commemoration Projects. |

| September 1999 | The Archives was inaugurated at the Institute for Monetary and Economic Studies to systematically and institutionally collect, preserve, and make publicly available archival records related to the Bank of Japan. |
| October 2002 | The Archives was designated by the Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications as a facility for properly managing archival records in accordance with the provisions of the “Act on Access to Information Held by Incorporated Administrative Agencies” and Order for Enforcement of the Act. |
| April 2011 | The Archives was designated by the Prime Minister as “the National Archives of Japan, etc.” in accordance with the “Public Records and Archives Management Act” and Order for Enforcement of the Act. |
