Toyotomi Hideyoshi minted various kinds of gold and silver coins in addition to Oban.
The above are representative examples.
The "Hakata Gokuyo gin" silver coin is said to have been minted to finance the invasion of Korea. The silver coins were stamped with "Gokuyo" all over the obverse so that people could know if it was not a counterfeit when cut into pieces for use (kirizukai).
Toyotomi Hideyoshi ordered "Goto" family, chaser employed by Ashikaga Shogunate family, to mint Obans or large gold coins. The "Tensho Hishi Oban" is said to be the first Oban among them. It is 10ryo(=165.4g) gold plate with paulownia mark in lozenge-shaped frame on surface. It also carries the indication "10ryo", "Goto", and signature of Goto.
